Controversial Artwork

‘La-Última-Cena’-–-Leonardo-Da-Vinci.jpg

This artwork is perhaps one of the most controversial ones in history. "The Last Supper" by Leonardo DaVinci portrays Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. This painting is very well done since it perfectly conveys what DaVinci was trying to show. Leonardo believed that Mary Magdalene was indeed a prostitute and this would damage the image of Christ since this woman was always near him. Of course there was a negative reaction towards this painting, especially in christians because this image diminished Jesus' pure and sacred identity.

Art as imitation: This artwork depicts an extremely controversial idea since it relates Jesus Christ with a prostitute. However, this is very realistic for the painter because by expressing this idea he introduces a Jesus that seems more like a normal man in the way that he has sex with a woman. The painting doesn't go in depth to how the relationship of Jesus and Mary Magdalene was but this is what we can infer and what the author wills to instill in our thoughts.

Art as communication: The artist tries to communicate how he feels about the bible and what he thinks of the truth behind Christ. Leonardo DaVinci was considered to be an existentialist and he would always question what many believed. His paintings revealed his inquisitive side.

Art as education: This painting would certainly not be viewed as religious education. It goes against the ideas of the church and against the thoughts of many generations of human beings. However, this painting gives a message that few people gave before. It gives a coherent and new idea about christianity. This idea can be adopted by anyone in order to build another story of what happened.

Dying Heartbeat

Sometimes people really make you wonder, and this scientific experiment does just that. On October 31, 1938, John Deering sat down and willingly put his life in the hands of another. He had volunteered to participate in an experiment that would kill him, and seemed to be okay with it due to the fact that he was due to be executed anyhow. The experiment was conducted by Stephen Besley. A prison guard put a black hood on Deering to cover his head and placed a target on his chest. The prison guard would be the one to fire the shot, but beforehand, an electrocardiogram was connected to Deering’s chest in order to read his hearts beats. Before being shot, his heart was racing at 120 beats per minute. Once he heard the okay to fire, his heart raced to 180 beats per minute. He was then shot 4 times, one bullet piercing the right side of his heart. According to the electrocardiogram, his heart went into a spastic rhythm for about 4 seconds and then 15.4 seconds later, his heart stopped.

A bullet to the heart kills you. Also that when you’re about to die with a gun aimed at your chest, you’re more than likely to be deathly (no pun intended) afraid. After the experiment, a press was given in which Dr. Besley said, “he put on a good front. The electrocardiograph film shows his bold demeanor hid the actual emotions pounding within him. He was scared to death.”

A right or a risk

80610730.jpg

It is a right for a patient to know how's their health, however, this can many time be a risk. In the case of a terminal disease, the person can enter a state of learned helplessness and later depression. Some patients even commit suicide. Some patients are more vulnerable than others like elders in contrast with a young and strong man.

In the United States, it is a law that the patient gets informed of their condition.

In Honduras, close family members have the right to reserve any explanation in order to not affect the patient's emotional state of mind.

In Cuba, doctors are many times forced to inform the patients about their problems because they have to deal with their condition on their own.

I believe that this decision depends on the patients personality and if he or she is strong enough to live with his or her disease.
