Historical Analysis Post

Origin: The exact origin is not specified, but I believe that it comes from a source that is not Honduran or Venezuelan because it doesn't seem to take sides and we see things from an outside perspective.

Purpose: This tennis game represents the situation with Mel Zelaya in Honduras and Venezuela. The purpose is to show that the situation is tough like this match and that both sides stand still with their position.

Value: This gives the situation a more simple look but a sufficiently understandable one from an outside perspective.

Limitations: We ignore the exact source.

Unethical Experiment

Milgram's Obedience Experiment

In 1961 Stanley Milgram made the headlines with his hugely controversial and unethical study into human obedience to authority. Taking place only months into the trials of WWII Nazi leaders, Milgram aimed to discover if those who committed the atrocities in concentration camps were truly evil people, or simply following orders from a higher figure.

Participants were given the role of ‘teacher’, and told by the experimenter to administer electric shocks to the ‘learner’, a fellow participant in a separate room, if they answered questions incorrectly. The ‘learner’ was a confederate of the experimenter, and no actual shocks were given.

With every wrong answer, participants were told to up the voltage of the shock administered, and as the volts increased, the ‘learner’ was heard to scream, cry and beg the ‘teacher’ to stop.

Shockingly, under the verbal prompting of the experimenter, 65% of participants continued to shock the ‘learner’, even after the screaming gave way to silence, until three shocks of 450 volts had been administered.

Although no actual electric shocks occurred, this study caused huge psychological issues for participants who had been lead to believe they had seriously harmed, or even killed, somebody.

Milgram certainly proved his point that individuals are capable of evil acts when obeying authority, but the amount of pressure he put on the volunteers during the experiment and amount of distress they experienced rightly makes this experiment very unethical.

To what extent do we need evidence to support our beliefs in different areas of knowledge?

Culture

These people revolt against the government and private companies blaming them for their poor conditions and the overthrow of their former president who wanted to change the constitution. They believe that their rights are being violated and that their former president should be re-established in his office.

School

Many times, I've gotten the same grade as a friend and I am questioned about it by my teacher. However, with my exam I can prove that I have different mistakes as my friend.

Personal Life

My parents keep telling me that I have to go to church because they are catholic, but I find other ways to be calm and to stay in order with other people as well as with myself.
